What is a general or routine cleaning and exam?

We recommend that you schedule a routine exam and cleaning at least twice per year. Full coverage dental insurance plans cover two exams and cleanings per year. Individual consultations and dental exams consist of cleanings, x-rays (when needed), and a focus on encouraging proper home care with overall oral health. We also provide sealants to help protect teeth against decay, fluoride treatments for healthier and stronger enamel. Tartar typically returns within 90-120 days of professional cleaning regardless of the most effective personal care regiments.

What are sealants?

Sealants should be used as part of a child’s total preventive dental care. Dental sealants are thin plastic coatings which are applied to the chewing surfaces of the molars (back teeth) to prevent decay. Most tooth decay in children and teens occurs in these surfaces. Applying sealants does not require drilling or removing tooth structure. It is an easy three-step process that takes a few minutes to apply and can last for 5 to 10 years. Sealants should be checked regularly, and reapplied when needed.

Why get a Deep Cleaning?

Did you know? Periodontal disease is the number one factor in tooth loss among adults in America.  Dentists and hygienists are trained to catch gum disease; the earlier it is detected the easier it is to clean. A deep cleaning uses a method called root planing and scaling to remove excess plaque and tartar that might lead to gum disease. During this treatment, the gum line is cleaned and restored in order to save your teeth.

P R O C E D U R E :

Deep cleaning, a non-surgical procedure, is done under a local anesthetic. The treatment removes plaque and tartar from above and below the gum line. Planing, smooths the rough spots on the tooth root. By smoothing the rough spots, bacteria is removed and you are left with a clean surface for the gums to reattach to the teeth.
